INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIFE (Okay, maybe just some suggestions.)

Sometimes I sit and think about what life is all about. I think hard and as deeply as my shallow mentality will take me. I listen too and read what great minds have said or written on the subject.

I’ve compiled a list of some of their thoughts on life as well as some of my own. After rereading my list I wish I would have put more in about the search for wisdom and of love. Maybe I should add; “The wisdom of the universe can be found in the pursuit of perfect love.”

1) Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others, Responsibility for all your actions.

2) Never lose hope and if someone you know has; pass your hope onto them.

3) Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

4) No mater how much or how little you have, share it.

5) Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

6) Pray. There's immeasurable power in it.

7) Spend some time alone.

8) Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.

9) Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

10) Read more books and watch less TV.

11) In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current
situation. Don't bring up the past.

12) Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

13) Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.

14) Be gentle with the earth.

15) Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

16) Remember that the best relationship is one where your love for
each other is greater than your need for each other.

17) Read between the lines.

18) Memorize your favorite poem or psalm.

19) Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

20) When you say, "I love you", mean it.

21) When you say, "I'm sorry", mean it.

22) Believe in love at first sight but not if your married.

23) In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

24) Don't judge people by their relatives.

25) Talk slowly but think quickly.

26) When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to   know?"

27) Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

28) Call your mom.

29) Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

30) You never fail, if you remember the lesson you learned.

31) Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

32) When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

Free Minds and Hearts at Work

At the beginning of the World Series of 1947, I experienced a completely new emotion, when the National Anthem was played. This time, I thought, it is being played for me, as much as for anyone else. This is organized major league baseball, and I am standing here with all the others; and everything that takes place includes me.
About a year later, I went to Atlanta, Georgia, to play in an exhibition game. On the field, for the first time in Atlanta, there were Negroes and whites. Other Negroes, besides me. And I thought: What I have always believed has come to be.
And what is it that I have always believed? First, that imperfections are human. But that wherever human beings were given room to breathe and time to think, those imperfections would disappear, no matter how slowly. I do not believe that we have found or even approached perfection. That is not necessarily in the scheme of human events. Handicaps, stumbling blocks, prejudices—all of these are imperfect. Yet, they have to be reckoned with because they are in the scheme of human events.
Whatever obstacles I found made me fight all the harder. But it would have been impossible for me to fight at all, except that I was sustained by the personal and deep-rooted belief that my fight had a chance. It had a chance because it took place in a free society. Not once was I forced to face and fight an immovable object. Not once was the situation so cast-iron rigid that I had no chance at all. Free minds and human hearts were at work all around me; and so there was the probability of improvement. I look at my children now, and know that I must still prepare them to meet obstacles and prejudices.
But I can tell them, too, that they will never face some of these prejudices because other people have gone before them. And to myself I can say that, because progress is unalterable, many of today’s dogmas will have vanished by the time they grow into adults. I can say to my children: There is a chance for you. No guarantee, but a chance.
And this chance has come to be, because there is nothing static with free people. There is no Middle Ages logic so strong that it can stop the human tide from flowing forward. I do not believe that every person, in every walk of life, can succeed in spite of any handicap. That would be perfection. But I do believe—and with every fiber in me—that what I was able to attain came to be because we put behind us (no matter how slowly) the dogmas of the past: to discover the truth of today; and perhaps find the greatness of tomorrow.
I believe in the human race. I believe in the warm heart. I believe in man’s integrity. I believe in the goodness of a free society. And I believe that the society can remain good only as long as we are willing to fight for it—and to fight against whatever imperfections may exist.
My fight was against the barriers that kept Negroes out of baseball. This was the area where I found imperfection, and where I was best able to fight. And I fought because I knew it was not doomed to be a losing fight. It couldn’t be a losing fight—not when it took place in a free society.
And; in the largest sense, I believe that what I did was done for me—that it was my faith in God that sustained me in my fight. And that what was done for me must and will be done for others.
In 1947, Jackie Robinson pioneered the integration of American professional athletics by becoming the first black player in Major League Baseball. During his 10 seasons with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he played on six World Series teams and was voted the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1949.

Don't Celebrate Valentine's Day.

I know this couple who don't celebrate Valentine's Day.

These happily married people--call them Nick and Nora.
Nick and Nora laugh about not celebrating Valentine's Day; it's sort of a private joke.

What they do is treat each other well during the year. They go places, enjoy each others' company, and even buy the occasional bouquet of flowers. Occasionally one does the others' chore, simply to be nice. When one has a cold, the other makes soup. They notice when the other one has a new haircut or pair of shoes. They point out interesting magazine articles the other probably wouldn't see.

So what they do on Valentine's Day is pretty much what they do on other days.

Editor: So maybe Valentine's Day was just created as a Hallmark Moment! Or, that it's a day that reminds us how crappy we've treated each other the other 364 days of the year.

Be Yourself.

Be yourself.

One of the hardest things to do in life is too define yourself.  So many people are willing to define you for you. If you get caught up in what others think, you start to think of yourself as they have judged you to be. I just wanted to be a simple man but I always found myself in extraordinary situation. I’ve loved being in places that I could create something from nothing. To be able to step back and say that just for a moment this happened because of me. But, I  have been labeled and so have you. Define yourself and don't worry about what others might think of you. Just be yourself and work hard on being the best you can be.

How Did I Get So Fat!

1. You're Following Bad Advice

Sometimes the government goofs. In the late 1970s, the United States began advocating a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet. In the early 1970s, the average daily energy intake was 2,450 calories. By the year 2000, that number had risen to 2,618. Almost all of those extra calories came from carbohydrates, according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

2. You Eat Fat-Free Foods
Warning: Low-fat foods may make you fat. Cornell University researchers reported that when overweight men and women were told they were eating low-fat M&Ms, they consumed 47 percent more calories than those who were given regular M&Ms (the M&Ms were actually all the same). On average, low-fat foods contain 59 percent less fat, but only 15 percent fewer calories than full-fat products.

3. You (Still) Don't Eat Breakfast
Sure, you've heard this one before. But it's important: Researchers at the University of Massachusetts found that people who don't eat breakfast are nearly five times more likely to be obese than those who make it an everyday habit.

4. You're Eating Too Much Sugar
According to a USDA survey, an average American eats 82 grams of added sugar every day. That's almost 20 teaspoons, which contribute an empty 317 calories.

5. You Don't Lift Weights
In a study at Ball State University, scientists put overweight men on a 1,500-calorie-a-day diet, and divided them into three groups -- one that didn't exercise, another that performed aerobic exercise three days a week, and a third that did both aerobic exercise and weight training. Each group lost almost the same amount of weight -- about 21 pounds. But the lifters shed 5 more pounds of fat than those who didn't pump iron. Why? Their 21-pound weight loss was almost pure fat, while the other two groups lost just 15 pounds of lard, along with several pounds of muscle.

The Mayo Clinic Diet: Eat well, enjoy life, lose weight.

Soul mates, true love, love at first sight. What do you think about things like this?

I guess I believe the line Tom Cruise used in the movie “Toby Mcguire” was right, His character says, “I love you. You... you complete me.”  We all have some missing pieces in our character that we want to have completed. True love is finding the person that you can mesh the areas you’re both interested in and then learning how their strengths fill your areas of weaknesses thereby, completing you both. Love at first sight, yup, I believe in it. Sure, I’ve heard of people that when they first meet, hated each other, only to fall in love later. That’s because the emotion of love and hate are both cut from the same cloth. You see, when you meet someone for the first time that you don’t like, it’s usually because you are seeing in them the very weaknesses you hate to see in yourself. I believe in love at first sight, I believe that physical attraction and spiritual connection can me made in an instant. I also believe that you should take action to investigate its degree of merit. (Unless your married, then it’s most likely just indigestion)  It’s like the great romantic Ronal Reagan once said; “trust your feelings, but verify.”

This might just make a good Valentines' Day Gift.
